- Improving conditions of the area with the gradual
solution of environmental problems.
- Raising the quality of life of the community of Playa
Florida with the diversification of the uses of the
wetland.
- Promoting the use of sustainable practices and the
financial sustainability of the actions of the Integrated
Coastal Management.
2.3 Goals
Reduction of at least 50% of conflicts, concerning
fisheries, with emphasis on commercial ones.
- Restoring water flow through the access road as a
means to create conditions for there recovery of
damaged mangroves.
Diversification of uses of the wetland as a way to
boost jobs in the community.
Access to sources of funding to ensure management
actions that require financial resources.
2.4 Duration
The Integrated Coastal Management Program of the
area occupied by the coastal community of Playa Florida
and surrounding areas was developed for a period of
five years; 2012 - 2016, during which it will be
monitored through annual assessments. Once
concluded this period, the program will undergo a
final evaluation and updating.
2.5 Limits of the proposed area
The proposed area consists of an irregular polygon
oriented perpendicularly to the coastal line that
extends from the depth of about 4 m to a height of
10m. It has 10.15 km wide and 17.3 km at its longest
part and covers an area of 146.4 km
2
.
The northern boundary along the coast is the estuary
Negrito (312 000N, 318 000W) and on the mainland
the northern edge of the rice plantations of San
Antonio Town (316 900N, 332 200W); the southern
boundary along the coast is the estuary La Jatia (302
800N 321 000W) and the mainland the road to Playa
Florida (309 000N 332 300W), the east limit is a
savanna ecosystem and the western the Gulf of Ana
Maria (Figure 1).
